Review:

  • Plot: Plot mainly revolves around Jane. Her ambitious life makes her do things that she never regrets and then she met Eddie and her life changed automatically. As soon as her life becomes picture perfect, the past starts to haunt her and there’s more to it. In addition to her own past, Eddie’s past wife is also a matter to look forward to. The story is captivating and it goes in layers. It is like removing the onion peel till you find there’s nothing left to peel.
  • Why it should be read: For the amazing style of storytelling. From the chapter one you’ll be sucked inside the life of Jane and it is quite difficult to come out of it. From the days of being dog walker to the fiancé of a multimillionaire man, you’ll be witnessing a story that is never predictable.
  • Where it lacked: The climax part is predictable for me because I have read so many thrillers that revolve around the same theme. It was unpredictable till the 75% of the book but the last quarter gave away the suspense and for me, it was difficult to end the last quarter of the book because I was too bored of everything.
  • Verdict: The book is indeed a great one – A thrilling masterpiece and deserves to be read by everyone who loves the genre. The writing style is quite engaging and the author keeps you hooked till the very end of it. It is like Tom Riddle’s diary where you get sucked in a world and you just keep on wondering how thrilling everything around you is!
    Definitely worth your time.

Book Blurb

Meet Jane. Newly arrived to Birmingham, Alabama, Jane is a broke dog-walker in Thornfield Estates—a gated community full of McMansions, shiny SUVs, and bored housewives. The kind of place where no one will notice if Jane lifts the discarded tchotchkes and jewelry off the side tables of her well-heeled clients. Where no one will think to ask if Jane is her real name.

But her luck changes when she meets Eddie Rochester. Recently widowed, Eddie is Thornfield Estates’ most mysterious resident. His wife, Bea, drowned in a boating accident with her best friend, their bodies lost to the deep. Jane can’t help but see an opportunity in Eddie—not only is he rich, brooding, and handsome, he could also offer her the kind of protection she’s always yearned for.

Yet as Jane and Eddie fall for each other, Jane is increasingly haunted by the legend of Bea, an ambitious beauty with a rags-to-riches origin story, who launched a wildly successful southern lifestyle brand. How can she, plain Jane, ever measure up? And can she win Eddie’s heart before her past—or his—catches up to her?
